After dedicating his prime years to an ungrateful family, Heart, a German shepherd, seemed destined to die alone and abandoned in an old house. However, his story is a testament to the power of hope and love, as he crossed the rainbow bridge surrounded by care and affection.
Heart was left in an ancient residence to spend the remainder of his life there. Luckily, the animal rights organization Qua la Paampa in Bitonto, Bari (Italy) intervened to save him from that fate. Heart, as he was named by his rescuer Gianna Serena Manfredi, suffered from paralysis and crawled on the street in search of food.
At night, he would return to the old house where he was left. It was a very challenging existence for him.
Although volunteers tried to help Heart regain his mobility, his condition worsened. There was nothing they could do to bring him back to health, but they could offer him love and make his final days the happiest. Gianna wanted Heart to experience love up close and to have a dignified and peaceful ending.
Gianna took it upon herself to give Heart a chance to enjoy life’s simple pleasures, such as feeling the wind and seeing the sea. Despite being immobile, Heart’s caretakers helped him experience the cold water, and they even wet his face so he could enjoy the scent of freedom. Heart spent his last days with the satisfaction of knowing that there are good people on earth who care for animals like him.
Heart’s story is a reminder that hope and love can heal even the most unimaginable pain and suffering. Let’s share this story to inspire others to become flesh and blood angels for animals in need.
